The last month of 2016 brought a historic increase in Italian exports, according to the National Statistics Office, Istat. Even if on a year-to-year basis the trade balance indicated an increase of 1.1%, when comparing the results of registered in December 2015 and those of the same month of 2016, the rise is of 5.7%. The trade surplus for Italy came mainly from the Italian locomotive industry, as Germany placed a great number of orders for machinery and metal products, and thus bringing an upsurge of 10.3%. In numbers, Italian exports in the locomotive sector grew by 7.4% in Europe.
